On September 10, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., VMs from the Research Cloud that are currently running on older hardware with Intel CPUs will be automatically migrated to newer hardware with AMD CPUs.

To do this, the affected VMs must be shut down briefly and restarted on the new hardware. During this process, the VMs will be temporarily unavailable.

Which VMs are affected?
You can check for yourself whether one of your VMs is affected by checking the CPU architecture it uses.

Linux: Run the following command in a terminal: lscpu
Look for “Vendor ID” in the output. For an Intel CPU, for example, “GenuineIntel” will be displayed there.
Alternatively:
lscpu | grep ‘Vendor ID’

Windows: Open a Command Prompt (cmd) and run the following command:
wmic cpu get manufacturer
For an Intel CPU, “GenuineIntel” will be displayed as the manufacturer.

All VMs with Intel CPUs are affected by this measure. VMs with AMD CPUs are not affected.

The migration is automated. No action is required on the part of users. Please take the specified timeframe into account when performing ongoing work on the affected VMs.

Thank you for your understanding.

",
